A lucky couple from the Isle of Wight have their beloved pet dog Ruby to thank for their spectacular double win in September of this year. Jane and her husband Alan, had already matched five numbers and a lucky star on the EuroMillions to win a cool £150,000.
Whilst that was great news and they were planning how to spend their windfall, their dog Ruby discovered a second ‘forgotten’ ticket from the very same EuroMillions draw that also turned out to be a winning ticket! The second ticket had been tucked into a catalogue and left forgotten in the back of their car, only to be disturbed by Ruby the dog when she was getting into the car after a walk with their other dog, Kai.
Alan Slater who is 65 and a customer relations manager said, “I discovered our first win in the early hours of Wednesday morning when I came home from work … so I ran upstairs telling Jane to get out of bed, she just grumbled at me that it better be a good reason.”
The second win was discovered on Ruby the dog’s birthday a week later and Mrs Slater, who has played the Lottery for 20 years burst into tears with her husband at the realisation that the second ticket was also a winner.
“The ticket could have so easily have disappeared in the rubbish when I tidied up the car, we couldn’t help feel that someone was looking down on us.”
Mr Slater is planning to retire earlier than planned and they are planning a special 60th party for Mrs Slater.
